Jharkhad House turns free-for-all!
Debate over office of profit turned a free-for-all in Jharkhand House when Congress MLAs created ruckus to drive their home their point.

Ranchi:While politicians at Centre seem to be ready for a possible consensus of the Office of Profit issue, the controversy still has many in the state Assemblies at each other's throats, quite literally.

What began as pure sycophancy, has now become a mad mad scramble to save seats.

And to achieve that, some of elected representatives seem willing to leave no stone and tables unturned.

Debate over the controversial issue turned a free-for-all in Jharkhand House on Friday when Congress MLAs created ruckus to drive their home their point that they did not support the Prevention of Disqualification Bill.

The debate in the Assembly could hardly be called a debate when MLAs started upturning the furniture and shouted slogans.

The bill is important to the Congress as because without this bill, four NDA MLAs will be disqualified and the state goverment will fall. Following the ruckus, the House was adjourned sine die.

"The House has been adjourned and I have forwarded the names of the MLAs to the Election Commission," Jharkhand Governor, Syed Sibte Razi announced.

And while the Election Commission decides on what to do about the said MLAs, BJP-led NDA is poised for a showdown with Governor Syed Sibtey Razi following his dispatch to the Chief Election Commissioner.

Meanwhile, the UPA has decided to meet President A P J Abdul Kalam on the issue.

Dismissing the Opposition claim that the Bill was passed unilaterally to protect some MLAs from disqualification, Chief Minister Arjun Munda said it was laid in the House under the normal course of business.

Apparently reacting to the report of Razi seeking CEC opinion, Munda, without directly taking the name of the Governor, said "one should always take into account all sides of any matter before reaching a conclusion."

Munda also sought to recollect Supreme Court's reported observations made during the political turmoil last year that persons occupying constitutional posts should maintain its diginity.

Even as this storm shows no signs of letting up and another, somewhat bizzare complaint has emerged from Bhopal.

Congress MLAs are now demanding that Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan be disqualified as an MP because he's also Chief Minster, which they claim is an office of profit because he gets an official house and a car.

"The Chief Minister is still a Member of Parliament and as chief minister he is also enjoying perks like helicopters and planes. He should resign," Congress leader, Jamuna Devi, said.

The Sonia Resignation has had ripple effect in other states as well.

Congress MLAs in Jammu and Kashmir, in a show of solidarity, resigned from their so called offices of profit.
