EDINBURGH (Scotland):Harry Potter creator J K Rowling has given money to help set up a 4 million dollar research center for Sclerosis. It means a great deal to me to be able to provide support for the Sclerosis research center,” Rowling said on Thursday.

The new facility will be housed at the Center for Regenerative Medicine at Edinburgh University’s medical school, it will carryout extensive research on multiple sclerosis conditions.

Multiple sclerosis is a condition of the central nervous system that impairs the brain's ability to transmit instructions to the muscles. There are around 85,000 people in Britain suffering from sclerosis, about one in every 700 people have the disease.

Rowling's lost her mother to the disease, she died at the age of 45. The author is also the patron of the Multiple Sclerosis Society Scotland.

``It is an extremely exciting step forward in the ongoing battle to try to unlock the mysteries of multiple Sclerosis and which will hopefully, one day, lead to a cure,'' said a hopeful Rowling.
