ISRO row: Nair writes to PM, says ban regretable
The former ISRO chief asked the PM to explain what the scientists had done wrong and why where they not given an opportunity to defend themselves.

Bangalore: Former ISRO chief G Madhavan Nair has written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking a withdrawal of the ban on him and three other colleagues over the controversial Antrix-Devas deal.

Nair wrote in his letter that the ban targeting him and the other three scientists was regretable.

The former ISRO chief asked the PM to explain what the scientists had done wrong, why there had been no communication from the PMO "till now" and why were they not given an opportunity to defend themselves.

If at all, action was needed, there should have been a proper enquiry and then action should have been taken, Nair wrote in his letter.

Nair further demanded that the controversial order of banning them from holding government posts be put on hold.

The Centre indicated earlier on Monday morning that it could reach out to the banned scientists soon.

Said Nair, "If it is a real move then it is good... I haven’t received anything from the government.

"I don't want any government favour. I want the honour to be restored. I don’t know the conclusion of the committee... I have asked for the information from the Department of space under RTI."

Nair further thanked all the other scientists who stood by him. "I thank all the scientists who supported me."
