New Delhi: In the keenly watched category of entertainment, noted actor, Irrfan Khan was named the CNN-IBN Indian of the Year 2012. Irrfan, who has made a mark for himself not just in the Indian film industry, but Hollywood as well, won the award against the likes of stalwarts like Aamir Khan and Sridevi.
Irrfan won the Indian of the Year award for contributing to make a splash both in domestic as well as international cinema. It was a year when the popular actor did films like 'Paan Singh Tomar' and 'Life of Pi'.
The other nominees in the category included actor Aamir Khan and Team Satyamev Jayate for successfully using TV as a medium for social change, actor Ranbir Kapoor for his endearing performance in 'Barfi', selected as India's entry to the Oscars and the evergreen Sridevi for charming her way back into the audience's hearts with 'English Vinglish'.
The other names in the category were filmmaker SS Rajamouli for delivering a hit with a housefly in his innovative blockbuster 'Eega' and Vidya Balan for proving that heroine-oriented films not only work in Bollywood but can be super hits too.
