COIMBATORE: The passengers of an onmi bus bound to Bangalore from Coimbatore had a harrowing journey on Sunday night after its air conditioner failed. The 40-around passengers, who boarded the bus at Gandhipuram at around 11.15 pm were shocked to know that the air conditioner did not function, only when the bus began to move. “Even as the passengers requested the bus crew to switch on the air-conditioner, they evaded from giving a proper reply,” police said.It began suffocating as even windows in the luxury bus also could not be opened. “Unable to proceed further, even without air ventilation, the irate passengers protested and brought the bus to a halt at Race Course,” police said. The bus crew had tried to convince the passengers by claiming that they started the bus, out of no way, only after the mechanic failed to turn up for servicing. However the passengers did not allow the driver to proceed further and demanded that the air conditioner be set right immediately,’ police said.Meanwhile, some of the passengers alighted from the bus and went about the journey through other means to reach their destination. The ticket charge was refunded to those passengers, who got down at Race Course. Left with no other way, the bus crew then arranged for a mechanic, who repaired the default air conditioner. “The bus had started to move at around 3.30 am on Monday after a delay of several hours,” police said. Meanwhile the passengers have also lodged a complaint with the Race Course police against the travel agency.
