New Delhi: State-owned Indian Oil Corporation will pay a compensation of Rs 30 lakhs and a monthly pension of Rs 10,000 to the family of the 25-year old sales officer, Manjunath, who was murdered in Uttar Pradesh.
Manjunath was shot dead by Monu Mittal, a petrol pump owner in Lakhimpur Kehir district of UP, on November 19 after he threatened to shut down the pump for selling adulterated petrol.
Monu Mittal had called Manjunath in the evening on November 19 saying that he had left some tools behind and when the officer came back to collect his tools, he was caught and beaten by six men and then shot dead.
"It was a planned cold-blooded murder. He was hardworking and intelligent and had a bright future ahead of him," IOC Chairman S Behuria said.
Behuria will visit the bereaved family in Kolar district of Karnataka this week to give them the compensatory amount.
Besides, IOC will also institute an award in his name for meritorious and exemplary services.
IOC was also recommending Manunath for award of Ashok Chakra, country's highest bravery award for a civilian in line of duty.
The murder, first in the history of IOC, had sent shock waves in the company and the country's largest firm is taking measures to restore the confidence of the other sales officers in the country.
IOC had taken up the security of its officers with the highest authorities in the state and would provide own security through CISF or private guards wherever necessary.
He said during the recent past company officials had received threatening calls in 27 different cases and it was dealing with them.
