New Delhi: It is the grand finale of the Indian Formula 1 Grand Prix. Buddh International Circuit may be a new circuit, but it is a familiar script, Red Bull's two-time world champion Sebastian Vettel will start in pole position on the race day.
Vettel was the quickest in the Saturday qualifying followed by team-mate Mark Webber who will start second. But sadly for Indian fans, Narain Karthikeyan will start last in the Sunday's race.
Sebastian Vettel put up a flying lap with a timing of 1 min 24.178 seconds to qualify in pole on Saturday.
It is Vettel's 13th pole of the season which ties him with legends such as Aryton Senna and Alain Prost and one short of Nigel Mansell for most pole positions in a season.
Lewis Hamilton had 'Mr Bean' around to support him but didn't have much to smile about, despite finishing second in qualifying; the former world champ will start in fifth position. The three place grid demotion from the first practice session come back to haunt him.
Penalty on Hamilton pushed Mark Webber to the second place on the grid.
For home fans, Narain Karthikeyan put in a top-notch performance as the HRT’s driver out qualified their Virgin Racing rivals. But was given a five place penalty, which means he will start last on the grid.
Ferrari's Felipe Massa will not be so happy after smashing his front suspension on turn eight, as he will be placed sixth now after setting the pace on day one.
The legendary Michael Schumacher will be 11th out of the 23 cars on the grid with Timo Glock out of the race.
