New Delhi: An Indian engineer, Bharat Kumar, was killed on Tuesday when Taliban militia attacked his car in Herat province of Afghanistan.
Kumar was among four killed in a bomb blast for which Taliban has claimed responsibility. The four, including a Turkish national, a Nepalese guard and a local, were killed when a remote-controlled mine blew up their vehicle in Farah province.
Bharat worked with a multinational company, Louis Burger, in Farah province. Kumar's body was identified on Wednesday.
The 41-year-old belongs to Udupi district of Karnataka. His body is expected to reach Mumbai later today. Bharat's wife lives in Mumbai.
Security of Indians working in war torn areas came into media focus last year. Indian driver Maniappan Raman Kutty was abducted and later killed in Afghnistan in November last year.
Bharat Kumar was employee of Gurgaon based MNC - Louis Burger & was working in Farah Province.According to him IED was used for the attack.
Barat was the second Indian to be killed in terror violence by Taliban in Afghanistan in two months, Kumar was working on
construction of a highway between Kandahar and Herat provinces, official sources said. He had been working since August 15 last year, they said.
In November last year, Border Roads Organisation (BRO) driver M R Kutty was abducted along with two locals by Taliban and killed two days later.
The Taliban had left a letter in which it demanded that BRO should wind up its operations in Afghanistan. BRO is engaged in construction of a crucial highway between Delaram and Zaranj in Kandahar province.
