New Delhi: Natwar Singh has been putting up a brave front ever since a storm broke out over the Volcker report in the Parliament.
Following Indian Envoy to Croatia, Aneil Mathrani's interview in India Today, Natwar Singh has said that he would face the struggle that has evolved around him because of the latest developments in the Volcker issue.
Aneil Mathrani claimed in the interview that the former External Affairs minister and his son Jagat Singh had got oil coupons from the Saddam Hussein regime for personal service.
Natwar Singh said,"There is a struggle and I will face it," when asked whether he found himself in a situation of struggle like Mangal Pandey, the hero of India's first independence struggle in 1857.
Natwar Singh was speaking on the sidelines of a function where he released the book 'Mangal Pandey' on the freedom fighter authored by Amresh Mishra.
Natwar however, refused to make any further comments on whether he would send a legal notice to Mathrani.
The former Minister had on Friday said Mathrani's remarks were "outrageous" and "malicious", and that he was
contemplating legal action.
Mathrani has since then stated that the "off-the-record" remarks were quoted "out of context" by the India Today magazine.
Natwar said that even Mahatma Gandhi had said that if there was a choice between violence and cowardice, some violence might not be wrong.
"If you take some step where some violence is required, you cannot condemn it but have to understand its reasons," he said pointing out that Mangal Pandey had been executed by Britishers after he raised a banner of revolt.
Natwar said the country's composite culture was under attack and that "we should put up a fight to preserve it".
