KOCHI: Joining hands with the Suchitwa Mission, the Traffic Police and the Kochi Corporation, the Vyttila Mobility Hub Society will jointly observe a week-long ‘Traffic Cleanliness Drive in the city. The aim of the drive is to create awareness among the public, who visit the Mobility Hub, on the importance of obeying traffic rules, maintaining discipline and keeping the premises of the hub clean.  The drive will be inaugurated by Excise Minister K Babu on October 28 at Vyttila. A decision in this regard was taken at a review meeting convened here on Monday.“The awareness programmes will mainly focus on keeping the mobility hub clean, the need to maintain a queue system for boarding the buses and obeying traffic rules,” said Vyttila Mobility Hub Society managing director M Beena. She said the members of various associations related with the overall development of the city had demanded the re-installation of the bus shelters that were removed from the Vyttila area. “Considering this demand, we have decided to reconstruct some bus shelters that had been removed earlier. However, the exact locations to reconstruct these bus shelters will be decided later,” Beena added. She said a final decision in this regard would be taken by the regional transport authority (RTA). “The District Collector will convene a meeting on November3 with the RTA authorities. A final decision is expected to be taken at that meeting,” Beena said. The demand that the KSRTC should start more services to the hub was also put forth by the members who attended the meeting. Though the Vyttila Mobility Hub has started functioning 24 hours, the desired result of the facility is yet to be achieved as long-distance KSRTC buses are not operating from the hub at night. The long-distance KSRTC buses are entering the hub only between 8 am and 8 pm and during the night time the buses are operating from the KSRTC bus station at Ernakulam. Beena said the office-bearers of various associations that attended the review meeting had raised the demand that the KSRTC should consider the gravity of the issue and take necessary steps to start more services through the hub during night time. The members of various residents’ associations, the Kerala Vyapari Vyavasi Ekopana Samiti, the Merchants Union and the Kerala Hotels and Restaurants Associations attended the review meeting.
