Srinagar: A pro-Pakistan Hizbul Mujahideen militant was killed in a gun battle with security forces in a Kashmir village on Saturday when the Valley saw normal life being resumed after over four months of shutdown and protests.
Police said the security forces launched an operation after they received information about the presence of a militant in Begumbagh village in south Kashmir's Pulwama district.
"As the security forces closed in on the hiding militant, he opened fire triggering an encounter in which the militant was killed.
"He is a local militant belonging to the Hizbul Mujahideen. His exact identity is being established," a police officer said.
A mopping up operation was launched for possible hidden explosives and arms.
