Mumbai: Martina Hingis will make her competitive debut in India later this year after organisers of the WTA event in Kolkata confirmed the Swiss former world number one's participation on Thursday.
The five-time grand slam champion, currently ranked 13th, is the top draw in the $175,000 tier III event to be held from September 18-24.
India's Sania Mirza has already confirmed she will play in the second running of the event won last year by Russia's Anastasia Myskina.
