New Delhi: Heavy rains have lashed several parts of northern India. While the national capital was on Tuesday evening lashed by heavy rains for three hours, there were reports of 36 people getting killed and over 100 getting displaced in Rajasthan.
The national capital witnessed severe traffic jams and waterlogging after parts of the city received 42 mm of rain in just three hours, the highest for this year. It led to heavy traffic jams in key arterial roads.
Meanwhile, rain related incidents killed 36 people in Rajasthan in one week. As many as 12 districts, almost a third of the state, were severely affected by unprecedented rainfall.
Many of those affected moved to relief camps.
Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh is also suffering from heavy rainfall. Many homes have been submerged and roads are waterlogged due to downpour. The schools in the city also remained shut due to the rain.
Places which received rains include Mahroni, Muzaffarnagar, Rath, Badhuna, Akbarpur, Salon, Meja, Phoolpur, Fatehpur, Amethi, Saharanpur, Deoband, Mahoba, Mawana and Moradabad.
Meanwhile, a Central Water Commission report said that the Ganga had crossed the red mark at Ballia while it was just below it at Fatehgarh and the Yamuna was maintaining an upward trend at Mathura.
Sharda river was still above the danger mark at Palia Kalan but has shown a decline while Ghaghra was above the red mark at Elgin Bridge and Turtipar.
