Gurgaon: After a heated argument with his wife over her work, a man murdered her and their two minor daughters before committing suicide earlier this week, police said on Friday.
The bodies of Anand Prakash, 36, his wife Laxmi, 34, and two daughters, Bulbul, 8, and Priya, 5, were found locked in their house in the Surat Nagar area in Gurgaon, police said. The family was living there for the last six years.
"Laxmi was working in a garment export house in the sector 37 of Udhyog Vihar. Anand, a two wheeler mechanic, was against her working there but she didn't want to quit. They often had heated arguments regarding the issue," said a police officer.
"He killed the family by stabbing them with a meat cutting knife. Before hanging himself he, slit his own throat too. All the bodies were found on the first floor in a locked room," he added.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Abhey Singh Rao said the dead bodies were discovered after neighbours complained of an intolerable smell from the locked house. "Bodies were badly decomposed. A team of forensic experts has been called," he said.
Expressing shock over the incident, neighbours Shur Singh and Ravinder Kumar told IANS that they had never thought that Anand could commit such an extreme step.
They said the family was last seen on April 16, when Anand said he was going with family to his native village in Baghpat district in Uttar Pradesh.
