Crafts mela sprawled over a humongous land, giving the feel of a village mela --- umpteen number of stalls displaying clothes and handicrafts; people dressed up in traditional attire, walking around dancing and singing; a host of food stalls offering everything from yummy chaat, to crispy dosas --- in a nut shell, this is the feel of the annual art and crafts mela at Shilparamam. The Shilparamam mela this year, which kick-started in the city on December 16, is no different from the ones that have been organised for the past few years. There are wide range of handicrafts available for shopping, right from toys to carpets. There are stalls from different cities across the country --- dress materials, sarees, kurtas, and more for women. The aforementioned textiles were available in varied fabrics like cotton, silk, Bandhini (tie and dye), khadi, among others. Also, Kashmiri embroidery, traditional Indian motifs and chikan work is available. Apart from a wide variety of clothes, the mela has Madhubani paintings, which are essentially done with vegetable dyes on waterproof handmade paper. These paintings are also done on cloth for which fabric paint is used. The prices start from Rs 50-15,000.You can get some nice wooden toys and articles with lacquer polish here. The price range starts from Rs. 20 and goes up to Rs 250. Some of the stalls also have products made from marquetry art. In this form of art different types of wood are dried, cut out and stuck onto a bigger frame of wood to form different designs. This popular form of art originates from Mysore, Karnataka. Also, there are various stalls offering accesories and knick-knacks --- from bags and foot-wear to jewellery and key chains. Some of them only sell jute foot-wear and bags. Footwear price starts from around Rs 150-200. Other knick knacks include ear rings, bangles, anklets, key chains, and a lot more junk and pearl jewellery.  Furthermore, there are hand block printed bed linen as sets and single pieces, divan covers and more, ranging from Rs 200-450. There are also a few stalls selling cotton and net fabric curtains. Also, there are aluminum and copper corner stands, artifacts, showpieces, statues, ranging from Rs 100-8000. Ceramic and terracotta ware are also available. Also, wooden furniture is on sale --- these include modas (low-seated stools), corner stands in metal and wood, antique styled furniture like swings, large showcases, sofa sets, tables and more.Once all the shopping is done, it will surely build you an appetite to savour on the variety of food that is on sale. You will find chat, chinese and South Indian food stalls. Apart from these, you will also find various mehndi tattoo and personal portrait sketching stalls. Also, don’t forget to do your bit of bargaining with the stall-owners.The entry ticket for children is Rs 10 and for adults is Rs 25.
