HYDERABAD: It seems the monsoon has brought back the dreaded swine flu! With a fresh swine flu case reported, Hyderabad district medical and health officials have directed superintendents of government hospitals and health centres to take precautionary measures to prevent outbreak of the disease.Dr BL Veena Kumari, District Medical and Health officer said, “A 40-year-old housewife from Maredpally was admitted in a private hospital with severe fever, cold and cough on July 25.Suspecting her symptoms, a few samples were collected and sent to the Institute of Preventive Medicine and they tested positive for swine flu.” She added that the woman is undergoing treatment and a specially constituted team of doctors have also done tests on her family members as a precautionary measure.“We are suggesting people to wear a mask or cover their face when they go out, since the virus spreads faster during the wet weather,” Veena Kumari said. This is the fourth case of swine flu to be reported this year. The DMHO said that surveillance and screening are being given high priority and special medical staff and testing centres made available at various places in the twin cities. She, however, pointed out there was no need for panic. “People need to be more vigilant and take precautionary measures.Government hospitals in the city are equipped with isolated wards and adequate staff to screen patients for swine flu. Patients, who are suffering with fever, cold and cough for more than three days can approach the nearest doctor for medical examination,” she said.
