BANGALORE: In a development which can raise the doubts on the very validity of muchpublicised Aadhar cards (Unique Identification Cards), the Bangalore police on Wednesday arrested five persons who were preparing and issuing fake UID cards.
Acting on a complaint, the High Grounds police raided the premises of Global ID Solutions situated in the basement of a shopping complex on 80 Feet Road at Hosakerehalli in Banashankari III Stage and arrested five persons. The police are also on the lookout for three more persons who managed to escape during the raid. The police recovered a printing machine and 1,200 fake ID cards and printing equipment including printers from the spot.The scam came to light when a few UID card holders approached the UID head office at Khanij Bhavan on Race Course Road to check the authenticity of the cards provided to them. Following this, Ashok Lenin, Deputy Director, Regional Office of the Aadhar project, filed a complaint with the police.

Aadhar is a `45,000crore project and one of the most ambitious projects of the UPA government at the Centre. The project is headed by former Infosys CEO Nandan Nilekani.

The police arrested Pranesh (34), a resident of Girinagar; Changa Raju (37), a resident of Hosakerehalli, Shivananda Sharma (30) from V V Mohalla, Mysore; Poornananda (35) from Puttenahllia Main Road in JP Nagar; and Shankar Saravanan (32) from NGEF Layout. The three missing persons have been identified as Vinay Chawla, Anand and Karthik. Pranesh, the kingpin of the racket, has been remanded to threeday police custody, while all others are under judicial custody.
