VIZIANAGARAM: Fisherfolk at Velduru village of Pusapatirega mandal in the district are up in arms against setting up of 120 MW thermal power plant by Hyderabadbased Kyori power plant. They plan to lodge their protest during a public hearing on the plant by the AP Pollution Control Board at Velduru on September 7.For the past few months, locals of Velduru, Budipeta, Nandivalasa, Thippalavalasa and Konada villages of Pusapatirega mandal have been agitating against the proposed thermal power plant stating that it would cause damage to environment and affect the livelihood of locals including fishermen.
Sources said the management of Chinni Gardens, a citybased real estate company bought 100 acres from farmers with a promise of providing employment and boosting local economy by constructing resorts at Velduru. However, the land was sold to Kyori power unit. Kyori plans to set up an ancillary cement manufacture unit as well, according to sources.
