HYDERABAD: Film producer Singanamala Ramesh, who is wanted in several cheating and fraud cases, was arrested by the sleuths of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in Chennai on Friday. Ramesh is a close associate of Bhanu Kiran, the prime accused in the murder case of faction leader Maddelacheruvu Suri, who is on the run.CID officials said Ramesh allegedly cheated the complainant, Vijayanthi Reddy, to the tune of Rs 14.69 crore.“Ramesh first borrowed Rs 7.62 crore and then Rs10.50 crore from the complainant. He repaid Rs 3.42 crore by handing over three flats in Hyderabad but defaulted on paying the remaining amount," additional director general of police (CID) SV Ramana Murthy said in a press release."When Vijayanthi and her husband pressed Ramesh for money, he called them to the Balaji Colour Labs at Film Nagar, which is jointly owned by him and Chillara Kalyan, and, with the help of Bhanu Kiran, threatened the couple of eliminating them if they continued to press for the return of Rs 14.69 crore," Rama Murthy said.Ramesh was questioned by the CID officials in Chennai and searches were conducted at various houses owned by him. He will be produced in a court in Chennai and brought to Hyderabad on transit warrant.CID officials said Ramesh cheated Mohammed Ashraf, the managing partner of Shalimar Video company, by promising to give him VCD and DVD rights of Komarampuli movie.
