'Thank You…': Says Manchester United Attacker to Lionel Messi Following Copa America 2024 Triumph
Alejandro Garnacho is a well known fan of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Argentina’s young forward Alejandro Garnacho had a few warm words for Lionel Messi following the Copa America 2024 triumph. Having won the CONMEBOL tournament, Messi shared a celebratory post on Instagram to thank his supporting staff and fans. Messi’s words also drew reactions from fellow footballers who thanked the captain for leading them to glory again. Manchester United star Garnacho was one such fellow footballer who wrote, “Thank you for everything, captain.” La Albiceleste became the champions of the Americas after beating Colombia 1-0. Lautaro Martinez scored the winning goal in extra time. The match was played at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on July 15.

While Alejandro Garnacho was a part of the winning squad, the young Argentine failed to have a major impact during the Copa America 2024. The 20-year-old only featured in the tournament’s group stage. He played 66 minutes in a comfortable 2-0 victory over Peru. Lautaro Martinez scored both goals in that match.

Apart from Alejandro Garnacho, Lionel Messi’s post also drew reactions from the official Argentina Football account on Instagram. “The captain of this family,” they wrote in the comments. Messi’s age-old teammate Angel Di Maria who played his last game for Argentina also thanked La Pulga and wrote, “Gracias Captain.” Argentina ex-winger Maxi Rodriguez commented, “They do not have an idea what they’re doing! Go Argentina.”

Alejandro Garnacho is mostly known for being a huge fan of Cristiano Ronaldo. The 20-year-old Argentine has often showcased his admiration and love for the Portuguese icon. In his club games with Manchester United, Garnacho has been spotted copying Ronaldo’s celebrations numerous times. The celebrations even sparked a reaction from his Argentina seniors. Earlier this year, Angel Di Maria had asked the young forward to copy Lionel Messi’s celebration instead of the Portuguese forward. Nearly two years ago, Aguero hopped in on one of Garnacho’s posts praising Ronaldo saying he would change his mind if he played with Messi.

As for Lionel Messi, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner didn’t have the best individual showings in Miami. He even had to come off shortly by the hour mark after accidentally twisting his ankle on the pitch. Messi even talked about the injury situation in his celebratory post and wrote, “I’m doing well and hopefully soon I can be on the court again enjoying what I love doing the most.”

Lionel Messi will now have his eyes set on leading Inter Miami to the MLS Cup. His side is currently leading the Easter Conference with 50 points from 24 matches.
