THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As many as six inquiries into various corruption charges targeting the previous LDF regime, several populist schemes like more compensation for endosulfan victims and 25 kg of rice for BPL families at Re 1 per kg, putting Kochi Metro back on the rail - the first 30 days of UDF Government witnessed an unprecedented speed in governance. The appointment of K M Chandrasekhar, the former Cabinet Secretary as the State Planning Board vice-chairman by Oommen Chandy was the last to hit headlines in the state. The first Cabinet meeting itself made an impact with the announcements of more compensation for endosulfan victims. The three-year-long demand for rehabilitation of the people who had to give their land for Vallarpadam Container Transhipment Terminal was sorted out by the UDF Government by providing adequate compensation.  Another major highlight of the UDF Government was the decision to implement the Chengara Package and also to find other suitable land for adivasis who were given unproductive land in Kasargod by the previous LDF Government.  Inviting Union Minister for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh to the state and holding discussions with state ministers helped in clearing the seven pending projects. But the UDF Government could not impress him on the Athirappally and Edakochi cricket stadium projects. The decision to call an all-party meeting to evolve a political consensus on evicting encroachers in Munnar is rated as another bold step taken by the UDF Government.
