CHENNAI: A couple posing as members of UN Human Rights Commission conned nine persons in Tamil Nadu by promising them lucrative jobs in Europe and collecting Rs 28 lakh.As per a complaint they filed with the Police Commissioner on Friday, Andreas and Mercy from Alwarthirunagar posed as UNHRC members to take away their money and passports. The couple allegedly collected amounts ranging from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 6 lakh from each of the complainants, promising them jobs in Bible printing units in Europe.They showed photographs of themselves with Collectors and police officials to lure them. According to Prakash of Pudukottai, one of the complainants, “We met the couple through a common friend. They promised me a job with a monthly salary of `2.60 lakh. Since March 2010, I deposited the money in instalments in their account and also submitted my passport to them. I arranged the money by selling my ancestral property.” He further alleged that the duo also cheated 20 other persons from Kerala. The complainants visited the couple several times and signed many documents.
