CHENNAI: More rains can be expected for the next two days in the State capital and other parts of Tamil Nadu owing to an active trough that extends to the Gulf of Mannar from the north coast of TN, says the weatherman. This will mark the State’s second spell of rains since the north-east monsoon set in.After a dry spell that lasted more than a week, several parts of north coastal Tamil Nadu and coastal Andhra Pradesh received heavy rainfall on Wednesday. Taragambadi in Nagapattinam district and Tiruvarur received high rainfall of 6 cm as on Thursday morning.Chennai also received heavy rainfall on Wednesday night and recorded more than 3 cm in the city. However, at the airport observatory, only 6 mm rainfall was recorded.“Over the next two days, more rain is expected to lash north coastal parts of the State, while rains will be recorded at a few places in interior TN too,” said Dr S R Ramanan, regional meteorological director. “After the rain, dry spells can be expected,” he added.Though the rains were not intense or incessant enough to affect the work routine of city dwellers, it did result in pleasant weather and overcast skies on Thursday. “It rained heavily only on Wednesday night and by the time we stepped out for work the next day, most of the water had drained off,” said G Kavitha, a resident of Royapettah. Water stagnation occurred in areas like KK Nagar, Nungambakkam and Vadapalani.
