CHENNAI: In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old man sustained severe injuries after a former ward councillor of the PMK stabbed him inside the police station at Mylapore on Sunday. Police said former councillor Manivannan’s daughter Lakshmi (name changed) was in love with Bilal of Pillayar Koil Thottam and had allegedly eloped with him on December 2.Acting on a complaint of abduction from Manivannan, the Mylapore police summoned both the families for questioning and to work out a compromise. Manivannan and Bilal’s brother Ahmed Basha (30) turned up before the police on Sunday afternoon. Apart from the investigating officer and a guard, there were hardly any policemen at the station as they were away on bandobust duty.“Heated arguments ensued between both the sides and in a fit of rage, Manivannan, took the muzzle-loaded rifle of the guard that was fitted with a knife, and stabbed Ahmed Basha,” T K Pugazhendhi, Deputy Commissioner, Triplicane, said. “The guard had left behind the rifle to attend a phone call.”Basha, who sustained cut injuries, was rushed to Government Royapettah Hospital, where his condition is stated to be stable. Police arrested Manivannan on attempt to murder charges.`3 Lakh Stolen from Car at VirugambakkamThe glass window of a car was broken and Rs 3 lakh cash stolen at Virugambakkam on Saturday.Natarajan (38), a resident of Chinmaya Nagar, runs an engineering tools company, sources said. On Saturday, he withdrew Rs 3 lakh from a private bank in Valasaravakkam and returned home in his car. After parking the vehicle in front of his house, he had lunch and came out again. He found the car window broken and the money kept inside stolen. He lodged a complaint with the Koyambedu police.  Chain SnatchedR Rajeswari (42), a resident of Tiruvottiyur, who was riding pillion with her husband Rajavel (45), was relieved of her 15-sovereign gold chain by two men on a bike, when their two-wheeler was parked at a traffic signal in Kilpauk.
