I am facing problem in Data Interpretation, what should I do? Give some tips regarding quantitative and English section.

Ans: Look at the data sets that you seem to be comfortable with. There are always 1 or 2 questions from most of the sets that can be attempted easily. In English, try to maximize your attempts in the min possible time so that you have some extra time for the other sections. In Quant, scan the entire section and attempt the questions that are relatively easier.

What is the minimum score (percentile) required to get into IIMs? What should be the scores in individual sections?

Ans: In order to get into IIMs, you need to be 99 percentile plus with balanced scores in each section. The individual section scores will depend on the difficulty level of the paper. However, you need to aim for a score of minimum 95 percentile in each section.

How many mock papers should one attend in a week just before CAT?

Ans: It is not a great idea to attempt more than one full paper in the week just before CAT. Focus on revision and relax, so that you are not stressed.

What would be the expected pattern in CAT 2006?

Ans: No one can predict the CAT pattern accurately in advance. You must always expect a surprise. If it remains the same you must consider it as a bonus. Whatever the pattern, it is the same for all.

How to allocate time to each section? Which section is advisable to start first? Which section should we concentrate more?

Ans: You can follow 50-50-50 pattern of time allocation with equal time spent on each section. Another strategy can be 45-45-45-15 pattern where the last 15 min is spent in a section where you fear that you have not cleared the ‘assumed’ cut-off or in a section where you can maximize yr score (if that is your objective).

What is the probability of an extra section in this year's CAT?

Ans: There is very low probability that an extra section would be added in essay writing or the General Awareness sections. Essay writing is subjective and will be difficult to assess. GA on the other hand appears in a number of other management entrance tests and is common to most entrance tests.
