Elephant hunter in police net

TRIPUNITHURA: An elephant hunter, who was in hiding for the past few years, has finally landed in police net.The arrested, identified as Jayan alias Vijayan, 35, of Pallivasal, was the main accused in an elephant hunting case in 2008.The accused, along with his team members, had killed an elephant in the inner forests of Munnar and kept its tusks in a secret place.The forest officials had caught all the the accused, except Jayan, red handed.After three months, Jayan, who had been absconding, escaped with the hidden tusks.Jayan, an accused in other elephant hunting cases, is suspected to be the master brain behind the inter-state elephant hunting racket.Though Jayan had been very active in elephant hunting in the forests of Munnar, Thekkady and Idukki, this is the first time that he got trapped in police net.He was also accused in some cheating cases.He used to trap women using mobile phone pretending as a lover.After getting the tips from City Police Commissioner M R Ajith Kumar, the police team comprising ASI Paulose and cops Suresh,Madhu, Jossy, Vinod and Babu traced the hideout of Jayan near the Tripunithura Railway Station.
