PARADIP: Tension gripped Gobindpur when anti-Posco activists restricted entry of the 25 ostracised villagers during an effort to resettle them in the village on Friday. Hundreds of anti-Posco activists of Gobindpur and Dhinkia villages sat at Sahu Chhak blocking their way. The 25 families of Gobindpur were forced to leave the village in 2008 following a clash with anti-Posco activists in which one person was killed. One among the families is that of Bain Mohanty, a leader of the pro-Posco movement. On Thursday, the villagers supporting the proposed Posco project held a meeting and decided to resettle the families in the village. However, while on their way to the village from the transit camp they faced resistance from anti-Posco activists armed with ammunitions and bombs. Panchayat samiti member Prakash Jena, who is the assistant secretary of Posco Pratirodha Sangram Samiti (PPSS), said we have nothing against them but the false cases registered against 300 PPSS activists need to be withdrawn first. SP S Devdatta Singh said the decision to resettle the villagers were taken without informing the police and hence, security could not be provided to them. We are keeping a watch on the situation, he added.
