The essentials of pursuing academic research was highlighted during the inauguration of the ECE association on Thursday, at the Thathai Periyar Government Institute of Technology (TPGIT), by Chief Guest Dr T Thiyagarajan, Head, Department of Instrumentation Engineering, Anna University, Chennai. “Learn software and hardware applications relevant to the research project first,” Thiyagarajan advised students. He also emphasised that the topic and area of interest should be innovative. By attending conferences, workshops, seminars, students could get insight and gain knowledge in this regard. E-resources could also help get more information. Once a theme was fixed, a plan to complete projects within the scheduled time frame was essential, he said. The students should also look out for tie-ups with industries to field test the application of the research project. Finally, the research work should be published in a journal, he added. New membership drive for district unit of Indian Red Cross Society
Vellore: The Vellore District Branch of the Indian Red Cross Society has initiated a drive to admit new members. According to its secretary (in charge) Dr Somasundaram (deputy director of health services), individuals both male and female with an attitude for service are eligible to join the society by making a payment of Rs 500 as a life membership fee along with the required application form.
The application form is worth Rs 2 and is available at the office premises of the society between 11 am to 2 pm on working days. Only one application will be given to individual persons. The applicants will have to come personally to the office to get the application. The completed application should be submitted to the society on or before September 30 through registered post only. After scrutiny of the applications, the members would be selected and admitted to the society, the secretary said.
