HYDERABAD: Thousands of devotees thronged the MCH ground at Ameerpet on Saturday to perform poojas on the occasion of Sree Ayyappan Vilakku and Pooja celebrations. About 100 artistes from Thrissur district in Kerala performed traditional arts like Panchavadhyam, Thayambaka, Singari Melam, Karakam and Kavadi Nrutham, Thiri Uzichil and Kanal Chattam on the occasion, accompanied by chants of ‘Swamiye saranam Ayyappa nama smarana.’ Many devotees were seen offering rice grains to Ayyappa Swami as Nyvedhayam.Five temples were constructed with banana leaves for Ayyappa Swami, Ganapathi, Guruvaya Swami, Saraswathi Devi and Subramanya Swami. The idols were installed after they were cleansed with purified water from a well. 25 priests from Kerala performed poojas to Ayyappa and other lords. A masjid was also constructed in the compound as a mark of communal harmony.An elephant adorned with gold Ambari was a big draw on the occasion. The animal was brought on rent of `40,000 for four hours from the Karnataka forests. The Ayyappa idol was taken to Sai Baba temple at Balkampet in a procession as part of Palakombu Ezhunnellippu and after performing poojas they were taken back to the MCH ground.Sree Ayyappan Vilakku and Pooja celebrations are being organised for the last nine years by the Sree Ayyappan Vilakku and Pooja Committee. Committee members said the pooja is held for 24 hours and will conclude by 6 a.m on Sunday.
