Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress on Thursday came down heavily on Tata Sons Chairman Ratan Tata for the latter's reported derogatory comment.
After launching the much awaited Rs 1 lakh 'people's car', christened Tata Nano, Tata allegedly said they were mooting that the car would be named "Buddha car, Mamata car or Despite Mamata car," but later Tata clarified that he had just 'cracked a joke'.
"The car, exhibited at the Auto Expo in Delhi, was rolled out from Pune in Maharashtra. But Tata's dream to roll out the Rs 1 lakh car from the Singur factory in West Bengal will never be fulfilled," Opposition Leader in the House Partho Chatterjee said.
"We take strong exception to Tata's comment and seek an explanation from him. Tata has no right to disrespect the people of the state," Chatterjee said.
"Tata will have to shift the car factory from Singur because the landloosers and the people in general will put up a stiff resistance. We are not against industrialisation in the state and it should be held in barren land. But Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and his administration have forcefully acquired the multicrop land from the farmers," he said.
He said the CPI(M)-led Left Front Government should return the 347 acre of land which it 'forcibly' acquired for setting up the factory to the farmers.
"Our agitation, led by party supremo Mamata Banerjee, would continue until the government returns the land to the unwilling farmers. We expect Tata will not visit Singur factory in the future," he added.
