New Delhi: The issue of demolitions in the capital rocked Parliament today with an agitated BJP-led opposition stalling its proceedings.
BJP led opposition leaders said that the opposition would not allow its functioning till a bill seeking a moratorium on demolitions and sealing of illegal structures be brought immediately into effect.
Government's assurance that the bill will be presented on Friday, failed to pacify the angry Opposition forcing adjournment of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha for the day.
JDU member Prabhunath Singh said that the judiciary was interfering in the functioning of the executive by forcing the demolition drive.
Reacting to it speaker Somnath Chatterjee said that the executive was only discharging the functions of running the Government and that it was "answerable" to Lok Sabha.
"Therefore, the power of this House cannot be taken away," he said.
As soon as the Lok Sabha assembled on the second day of the extended budget session, BJP's Deputy Leader V K Malhotra was on his feet saying the House "cannot function till the bill is brought."
"The Government is not fulfilling its promises to the people of Delhi" said Malhotra demanding that the Question Hour be suspended.
He further added that the rampant demolitions and sealing of shops were continuing unabated.
Proceedings in the Rajya Sabha were also disrupted with the BJP-led NDA demanding legislation to stall ongoing demolitions in Delhi.
