New Delhi: An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) rank officer allegedly committed suicide at Delhi Police Headquarters (PHQ) on Thursday.

According to initial reports, the deceased has been identified as 55-year-old Prem Ballabh, who jumped off from the building at Indraprashta Marg. He was posted in crime and traffic unit of Delhi Police. Officers are investigating the matter.

Earlier in May, senior Maharashtra police officer Himanshu Roy, involved in many high-profile investigations, committed suicide by shooting himself at his home in Mumbai. He was battling cancer and had apparently been depressed.

In the same month, a senior police officer shot himself dead with a service pistol inside his room at Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) headquarters in Gomtinagar in Lucknow. Rajesh Sahani, a 1992 batch UP Provincial Police Service officer, was looking after the case related to a Pithoragarh resident Ramesh Singh Kanyal, who was arrested for helping the ISI to bug the house of an Indian diplomat in Islamabad, Pakistan, where he worked as a cook between 2015 and 2017.
