Decision to shut Mumbai airport's main runway for 8 hours on hold
The Mumbai airport is the second largest airport in India and handled 30 million passengers last year.

Mumbai: The decision to shut main runway of Mumbai airport for 8 hours is awaiting clearance. The main runway is to be shutdown order to build two rapid exit taxiways. All airlines have then to reschedule their flights. A secondary runway has been planned but implementation proving difficult.

The Juhu aerodrome runway's use is also limited due to the tall buildings surrounding it. The Mumbai airport is the second largest airport in India and handled 30 million passengers last year.

The Delhi airport handles the largest number of passengers in the country, that is 34.4 million passengers handled last year . The total operating area is 5,100 acres. There is no encroachment in Delhi airport.

There are three runways and two of them are parallel. It has 11 rapid exit taxiways.

As compared to Delhi airport, Mumbai airport handled 30 million passengers last year. The total operating area is 1190.12 acres. Of the total area, 276 acres of area is encroached upon.

There are two runways which intersect each other and a secondary runway is also planned. There are two rapid exit taxiways and work on two more have started.
