Days after the Indian Army carried out a counter-insurgency operation in Myanmar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval is slated to embark on a visit to the country on Wednesday.
According to reports, the Indian and the Myanmar governments have been in constant touch and Doval's visit is being made to discuss further joint action against Northeast terrorists.
During his visit, Doval is expected to focus on identifying leaders of the insurgent group NSCN-Khaplang who are operating in Myanmar.
Notably, India and Myanmar have been differing over where the Indian Army actually carried out its operation. While Myanmar claims that Indian soldiers did not cross into its territory, India continues to insist that the terror camps which were destroyed in the operation were in Myanmar.
The hot pursuit of Northeast terror groups inside Myanmar was completed in just 30 minutes by 40 commandos of Indian Army's 21 Para Special Forces. The surgical strike was carried out in retaliation to the June 4 ambush in Manipur's Chandel district in which 18 soldiers of 6 Dogra Regiment were martyred. The response from New Delhi was almost immediate and deadly.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi wanted a "swift response" and decided that a strong retaliatory counter offensive was needed to send a clear message: "You hit us, we will hit you badly."
