Senior Congress leader and MLC D Srinivas left for New Delhi Thursday evening amid speculation that the Congress Party high command is contemplating change of guard for both the party and the government.
Deputy chief minister Damodar Rajanarsimha is already in the national capital on the high command summons.
According to sources, Srinivas, who is understood to be in the good books of party president Sonia Gandhi, might be given greater responsibility.
After his nomination to the legislative council, he has been lying low as he was not given any major responsibility.
Srinivas is expected to call on Sonia Gandhi and explain his perception of the party affairs in the state and suggest remedies to improve its image.
“As Sonia Gandhi is directly supervising the party affairs, it is difficult to hazard a guess what responsibility would be given to him,” a senior party leader said.
Meanwhile, former Youth Congress president TJR Sudhakar Babu met Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi and explained to him how YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s coverts were wrecking the party from within.
He is understood to have told him that not less than seven ministers in Kiran Kumar Reddy’s cabinet owe their allegiance to Jagan and though he had brought this to the notice of PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana, no action had followed.
Even as the curiosity over Operation Clean-up continues, an off the cuff remark by Botcha while speaking to his confidants has set off intense speculations over the possible change of guard.
He is understood to have said that both he and chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy are facing an uncertain future because both of them had complained against each other to the party central leadership.
