KOCHI: The Committee To Coordinate (CTC) under the Empowered Panel on Mullaperiyar dam has decided to drill nine boreholes at the dam to carry out the tests as requested by Kerala.The CTC which met in New Delhi on Tuesday, agreed to Kerala's demands to take cross-sections from areas where lime and surkhi mixture are available in depth.The CTC asked the agencies to speed up conducting of tests and submitting of reports.The CTC also asked the Central Soil and Materials Research Station (CSMRS) and the Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS)to carry out tests immediately.The CSMRS has been asked to file a report on ROV tests while Kerala's objection to the manner in which the tests were carried out was also discussed.The mapping tests are being carried out by the CSMRS while the drilling of holes is being done by the CWPRS.The committee discussed the places to be selected for drilling around the dam. "The state insisted on carrying out drilling from a 150ft point around the dam. The CTC discussed the data submitted by Tamil Nadu and Kerala about carrying out tests at the dam. Also we had earlier informed about the dissatisfaction on the part of Kerala about the ROV tests done by the Central team. That was also discussed," the officials said.It has also been decided to check the tension at a hole which was made for cable anchoring in the 1980s."An agency has been entrusted with the task of carrying out tests to check the tension of a hole which has been made for cable anchoring and has not been filled yet" the officials said.The river data, which is necessary for the dambreak analysis was also discussed at Tuesday's meeting.Kerala on Tuesday submitted the cross section of river data on a 33km stretch from Mullaperiyar to Idukki to the committee.The state filed the feasibility report on the new dam before the Empowered panel on Tuesday.The report will be discussed by the Empowered Committee on Wednesday.
