The Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) on Saturday has inked a pact with the Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships (DGLL) for building a Buoy Tender Vessel (BTV). Being a highly specialised and high-tech vessel, the BTV is expected to give CSL considerable exposure and expertise in the offshore vessel segment.
BTVs are used for transporting and placing buoys in position at deeper depths, recovering buoys and their moorings for examination and overhaul, attending to their lighting equipment, towing and mooring of light vessels and distress management in areas with strong currents in the range of six to eight knots.
The vessel is equipped with state-of-the-art navigation and communication devices, with ECDICS and mapping devices. The 71.2 x 16.0 m vessel is also equipped with 35 T tool crane and a helicopter deck with a D-value of 16 m, two 2,000 KW diesel engines and two controlled pitch propellers. To ensure better maneuverability, the vessel will be equipped with two bow thrusters and one stern thruster of 590 kW capacities each, and will have the capability of Fire Fighting Class I.
