Visakhapatnam: Asserting that economic offences and communal violence is more harmful to society than the Left party's extremism, CPI today asked the Centre and state governments to lift the ban imposed on Maoists.
"It is unfortunate that the government has been treating the Left wing extremists as law and order problem, instead of a socio economic problem," said CPI national executive member K Narayana.
"The economic offences and communal violence prevailing in the country are more dangerous than that of Left party extremism. The bullet for bullet theory has created unrest in many places in some states. Therefore, the Centre and state
governments should lift ban on Maoists," he said.
According to Narayana, the Left party extremism was born with an ideology for uplifting the poor and the downtrodden, and "that it could not be stopped through a barrel".
"The Union government should treat the Left party extremism as a socio economic problem and start discussing issues pertaining to lands and few others which are more important," he said.
