MANGALORE: The Fast Track court slammed the police and CID yet again on Saturday, charging them with prolonging the 'Cyanide Mohan case'.
In the last three months, this is the second time that the Fast Track court has rapped the investigating agencies. When the Cyanide Mohan case came up for hearing in the Fast Track court, the Judge expressed his disappointment with the police not doing any followup in the case. The judge also frowned, when the CID filed an additional chargesheet in one of the cases. Observing that CID has been filing additional chargesheets 'in one case or the other', the Judge pointed out that such steps were needlessly prolonging the case."I can understand if additional chargesheets are in the form of reports from forensic and other laboratories which get delayed... these additional chargesheets are statements of crucial witness," he pointed out.

Special Public Prosecutor Mohammed Beary rushing to the defence of CID said, since the chargesheet should have been framed within 80 days, they rushed through the process and submitted the chargesheet within 90 days in order to prevent accused Mohan from securing bail. A copy of Mohan's statement presented before the Magistrate in Puttur, which is claimed as concrete evidence (under 164 Cr PC) remained untraced. The Fast Track Court judge's efforts including writing to the judges to trace the original document failed on Friday too.
