PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry unit of the AIADMK on Sunday urged the Lieutenant Governor to convene the Legislative Assembly without further delay.In a resolution adopted at a meeting of its office bearers here, the party condemned the AINRC government led by Chief Minster N Rangasamy for not convening the Assembly even three months after assuming office. Since the “minority” government was yet to convene the Assembly, the elected MLAs could not start functioning, stated the resolution. Meanwhile, in another resolution, it urged the government to take immediate steps to conduct the local body elections in the Union Territory.The AIADMK meeting also called for an increase of the assistance to pregnant women to Rs 12,000 from the present Rs 1700.The party also wanted the amount given as assistance to fishermen during the fishing ban period to be raised to Rs 4,000 from Rs 2,000.Further, the meeting pressed for the release of all details pertaining to candidates for medical courses, including their Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC) merit list. They also wanted the fee structure for each professional course for the selected students to be released.
