New Delhi: A railway contractor who used to call up Inspector General of Railway Police Force's (RPF) office, claiming to be railway minister Dinesh Trivedi has been arrested by Crime Branch of Delhi police.

"The accused identified as Raja Babu Ojha wanted to get an inspector of RPF transferred to another department at the latter's request. He used to impersonate the central minister to take the IG RPF under his influence. The IG's office conducted an inquiry and found out that the cellphone number from where the calls originated didn't belong to Trivedi. They then approached the Crime Branch to look into the matter," said a senior police official.

The official said that on July 9 the accused made the call to the IG. They filed an FIR in this respect the next day after getting a written complaint from an inspector attached with the IG's office.

"When the accused came to know that action could be taken against him, he threw the memory chip and SIM card of the cell phone into a canal and got an FIR of cellphone theft registered at a police station in Kolkata on July 12. But he was using the same cellphone after getting the old number again. He told the Crime Branch official that his cellphone was stolen and he did not make any call. But when he was asked how he got back his old cellphone he did not have any answers. Finally he broke down and confessed to his crime," said the police official.

Cops said that the accused is only a railway contractor. He often used to come to Delhi for work. As he had become friends with many railway officials he used to stay at Rail Bhawan where he met an inspector.

"He told the inspector that he has high contacts in the railways. The inspector wanted to be transferred to another department. The accused promised to get the work done. However, the inspector had no idea what modus operandi the accused would adopt. Police will not take action against the inspector as no crime has been committed by him," added the official.
