New Delhi: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee has said that K Karunakaran's attack on Congress at Kochi convention of DIC(K) is the main reason for failure of talks to forge an alliance.
Meanwhile, IUML hopes to revive Congress-DIC(K) talks by Thursday.
Earlier, in the convention Karunakaran had described the Congress as the most corrupt party.
Earlier Congress has exuded confidence in forging an electoral tie-up with Karunakaran's DIC(K) in Kerala despite the breakaway leader's unilateral announcement to field candidates in all the 140 constituencies in the forthcoming Assembly polls in the state.
The party's Central leadership said it was not disappointed with Karunakaran's announcement of going alone in the Assembly polls and hoped some sort of an arrangement, including possible merger, could be possible.
It, however, admitted that the Congress high command demand that DIC(K) candidates contest the polls on the 'hand' symbol was a bone of contention between the two sides, which had held two rounds of discussions so far.
"He (Karunakaran) has a technical problem with that. He has built an organisation and it takes time...," Congress General Secretary Veerappa Moily, in-charge of Kerala affairs, told reporters.
"Where is the disappointment?" Moily said when asked whether the party was unhappy over Karunakaran's decision.
Indicating that the party was still hopeful of bringing DIC(K) into the UDF camp, he said" "Karunakaran's body language today was different from his usual style of atacking the
Congress' national leadership."
"Talks are on. Had there been any hindrances, I would have stopped the dialogue process."
About a possible merger with Congress, Moily said there was no timeframe. Till the merge takes place, he was free to air his opinion. "Talks will continue," Moily said.
Meanwhile, KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala said a final decision on forging an electoral alliance with DIC(K) would be taken by Wednesday after discussions within the party.
He said Moily would hold talks with senior Congress leaders in Thiruvananthapuram and take a decision on poll related issues, including ties with DIC(K). Sources said Congress President Sonia Gandhi is very much keen on a tie-up with the veteran leader.
Moily and Chennithala met Congress President Sonia Gandhi and apprised her of the situation arising out of Karunakaran's unilateral announcement.
"We have informed the Congress President of the political developments in the state," he told reporters after nearly an-hour-long meeting.
