Cong downplays Bhajan's resignation
Congress is downplaying the resignation of Haryana PCC President Bhajan Lal and denies the party receiving a resignation.

New Delhi: Congress on Saturday downplayed the resignation of Haryana PCC President Bhajan Lal saying the party had not received any communication from him.

"We have not received his resignation letter yet. Whenever it is received, it will be placed before the Congress President and whatever decision is taken on it, will be communicated to you", party General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi said.

Dwivedi, who is in charge of party affairs for Haryana, refuted suggestions that there was any injustice on the senior leader.

"Bhajan Lal has been Chief Minister of the state for 13 years and has currently been the PCC Chief. One of his sons is the Deputy Chief Minister of the state while another a Member of Parliament", he remarked.

Dwivedi also brushed aside queries that Bhajan Lal's decision came in the wake of his failure to meet Gandhi despite persistent efforts. "Bhajan Lal has always told me that he has often been meeting Gandhi", he said.

Lal is the first PCC Chief since Congress came to power at the Centre to quit his post targeting the leadership.

A section of the party, however, felt that Lal, who is an old hand in politics, was indulging in pressure tactics as the letter addressed by him to Sonia, which made its way to the media, does not have either his signature or has any date.
