Panaji: Chinese film The Old Barber bagged the Golden Peacock Award at the 37th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on Sunday.
“Hasi Chaolu directed The Old Barber made people ponder over themselves, their friends and family members and how to live in the ever-changing world," the jury members wrote in the citation presented to the director of the film.
The highest award consists of a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh, besides the citation.
The Most Promising Director Award carrying a Silver Peacock and a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh went to Kyung Lee, for the Korean film A Short Life.
Bangladeshi Director Abu Sayeed won the Special Jury Award for Forever Flows. The award carries a silver peacock and a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh.
The five-member jury headed by Australian Director Rolf De Heer included French Director Oliver Assayas, India's renowned director Jahnu Barua, Polish actress Grazyna Szapolowska, and Argentinian actress Leticia Bredice.
At the concluding function of IFFI, Goa Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane, Information and Broadcasting Secretary S K Arora and actress-turned filmmaker Aparna Sen were also present.
