KOCHI: ‘Express’ had earlier reported about the lack of security at the Government Children’s (Girls) Home at Kakkanad after a number of girls went missing from there. According to K P Shamsu, former superintendent of the GCH Kakkanad, four girls had gone missing and anti-social elements had an access to the place through a cleft in the compound wall. People used to sneek in through the collapsed wall helping the girls to flee. Though the place was supposed to be under strict surveillance, police were not usually seen there. Also, the walls of the GCH slanted at certain places making it easy for trespassers. According to the officials of the Thrikkakkara police station, several anti-socials were arrested while trying to enter the compound. Though many missing cases were reported none of them were registered except one. Usually, the police managed to bring back the girls from nearby locations. Both the inmates and the local people are aware of the insecure situation.
