The Bengaluru Police were left stunned after a 29-year-old woman was exposed in an accident-cum-robbery drama at Bengaluru’s Bhoganahalli area in a bid to allegedly get hold of her ex-boyfriend’s mobile.
The police arrested P Shruthi (29) and her four associates– Manoj Kumar, Suresh Kumar, Honnappa, and Venkatesh– on Saturday on the charges of dacoity. The woman said that she allegedly planned the incident to take possession of her ex-boyfriend’s mobile phone, which contained private pictures of them, as reported by Indian Express.
Initially, cops thought it was a robbery case sparked by road rage. The miscreants had allegedly targeted Shruthi and her friend after ramming a car into their bike, and fled with their mobiles. However, it was later revealed that the woman was the mastermind and had assigned four men to rob her ex-boyfriend.
The victim, Dumpa Vamshi Krishna Reddy, had lodged a complaint that some miscreants had robbed him and the woman of their mobile phones when they were on a two-wheeler on September 20. Reddy said their mobile phones were snatched by a group of men following a minor traffic altercation near a commercial store.
“A Swift Dzire car rammed into our vehicle from behind, and when I questioned them, two men from the car snatched our mobile phones,” the victim said in his complaint to Bellandur police as reported by the national daily.
However, the police discovered that no accident had occurred at the reported location, instead four men had blocked Reddy and Shruti, claiming they had hit their vehicle, and run away with the phones.
The police then traced the cab and its driver and later nabbed Manoj, a painter by profession and one of the associates of the woman. He allegedly confessed to having snatched the mobile with his associates and shocked the police personnel by saying Shruti had given him Rs 1.1 lakh for the task.
Shruti had told the police that she felt insecure after she broke off her relationship with Reddy and hence devised the whole drama fearing that Reddy would misuse their intimate photos in future. Although Reddy had assured the woman that he had deleted the photos, he refused to give her his phone, which raised her suspicions.
“At this point, Shruti contacted Manoj who had worked on her house, and bribed him to carry out the robbery. When Manoj informed her that he needed additional help, she provided him with Rs 1.1 lakh to assemble a team,” said an officer to the national daily.
