The Jaydev Bhawan will next week come alive with the art works created by 600 kids from different schools across the country for the three-day All-India Child Art Festival. Organised by Odisha Modern Art Gallery, the special exhibition is first of its kind in the State and the works are categorised under two groups – Junior (5 to 10 years) and Senior (11 to 16 years). The exhibition will begin from December 8 and the gallery would also celebrate the day as ‘Shilpi Divas’ (Artists’ Day).Gallery director Tarakanta Parida said 60 of the exhibits will be awarded gold, silver and bronze medals (30 medals for each of the two categories) during the festival. A jury comprising eminent artists and art teachers will select the awardees.Parida said entries for the exhibition have been recieved from students from all corners of the country. “The children were not given any theme as this would have brought down their creativity. They have worked on various themes like global warming, nature, world peace scenario and many of them have created abstracts too. One would also find varied mediums on which the kids have worked upon,” he said.An interesting component that has been added this year is a film festival where children’s films will be screened at the Jaydev Bhawan auditorium.Apart from the All-India Child Art Festival, the Gallery will also organise an exhibition of 30 paintings by 30 Odia professional artistes. On the occasion, Minati Mishra, Ananta Mohapatra, Gopal Panda and Fakir Mohan Mallick will be felicitated for their contribution to the field of Odissi, theatre, music and fine art respectively.
