New Delhi: Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha on Thursday condoled the death of 14-year-old Chandan who succumbed to cancer a day ago.
Chandan, who had been undergoing cancer treatment at AIIMS in New Delhi, finally succumbed to the disease on Wednesday after a long battle. The boy had nurtured a dream to become a fighter pilot one day. The Indian Air Force (IAF) gave wings to his dream and he "achieved his wings" at Air Force Station Ambala on his birthday, 14 November 14, 2014.
In a sad coincidence, Chandan, whose birthday coincided with Childrens' Day, died of cancer on the World Cancer Day.
In his condolence message, Air Chief Marshal Raha said, "Today, we are very saddened to learn that young Chandan, who had been battling cancer for some time, is no more amongst us. It is a sad coincidence that he had to die of cancer on World Cancer Day.
"Chandan was a brave boy and a fighter, in that he was very keen to live his dream of being a fighter pilot, despite probably being aware of his ailment. We were fortunate to have been associated with him and be a part of his dream, albeit for a short time. His cheerfulness and deep desire to follow his dream inspired us all," he said.
He further said, "In this moment of grief, my heart goes out to the parents of young Chandan. We pray to God to grant them the strength to bear the loss of their young child. Chandan shall continue to live in our memories forever. May his soul rest in peace."
