CHENNAI: Food Minister S Kamaraj on Monday charged that the Central government has been betraying Tamil Nadu government in the allocation of kerosene, and the DMK, which is a constituent partner of the UPA government, is also hand in glove with the Centre. However, Congress member N R Rangarajan said the Centre has been deciding about the quantum of kerosene to be allocated to the States based on the number of gas connections being availed by each State. As such, the Centre has not been betraying Tamil Nadu in this issue.Replying to the issue raised by CPI floor leader M Arumugam, the Minister said the Centre was supplying 59,780 kilolitres of kerosene per month till March 2010. Later, from April 2010 to May 2010, the allocation was reduced to 52,806 kl per month. Again, the allocation was further reduced to 44,572 kl per month between June 2011 and March 2012. Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has written letters to the PM and requested him to increase the allocation but of no avail. Now, the Centre has further reduced the allocation of kerosene to 39,429 kilolitres for the current month, the Minister said this quantum could fulfill only 60.53 per cent of the State’s present requirement. To this, the Civil Supplies Department undertook a survey on the number of cylinders to be utilised by each family and found out the families which use two cylinders and are still getting kerosene and discontinued supply to them
