CB probe ordered into Satnams death

The State Government on Monday ordered a Crime Branch inquiry into the death of Satnam Singh, a 23-year-old youth from Bihar, agianst the backdrop of reports that the death was unnatural.

Inspector General of Police B Sandhya will conduct the investigation.

The report of the post-mortem, which was conducted at the Medical College Hospital here on Monday, will be available on Wednesday.

Satnam Singh’s father Harindra Kumar Singh and brother Karan Deep Singh, who arrived here on Monday morning, told reporters that Satnam died under  mysterious circumstances. ‘’We are awaiting the post-mortem report. After that we will consult legal experts to see what could possibly be done,’’ said Vimal Kishore, a scribe with ‘Aaj Tak’ who is a cousin of Satnam Singh. Harindra Kumar demanded a CBI inquiry into Satnam’s death.

He also met IG B Sandhya in the evening.

The body of Satan Singh will be flown to Kolkata and from there it will be brought to Bihar on Tuesday. The government will bear the expense to  shift the body to Bihar and that of an attendant who accompany the body.

Satnam Singh from Gaya in Bihar was arrested by the police on charges of attempting to attack Mata Amritanandamayi at Vallikkavu ashram during ‘darshan’ on Wednesday. After being lodged at the Kollam district jail, he was brought to the Mental Hospital here on August 2 as he showed symptoms of mental illness. Satnam Singh was rushed to the Medical College Hospital here late on Saturday where he was declared brought dead.

In a report submitted to the ADM by Mental Hospital superintendent Dr Sunil Kumar, it was said that there was a fight  between Satnam and the other inmates of the hospital cell where he was lodged, which  caused the  injuries.
